FAQ

General

How far is Coconut Lodge from downtown?

In Panama, because of the unpredictable traffic, distance is not calculated by kilometres. The city is relatively small and everything is witin a driving distance.

When there is no traffic, we are 15-25 minutes away from downtown. During traffic hours (6:00-8:00 am, 12:00-1:00 pm and 5:00-7:00 pm) it can take you as much as 45 minutes to an hour. This is true of all neighborhoods in the city.

I will be renting my own car. What is th easiest way to the Lodge ?

If you are coming from the Airport:
Exit the airport and drive towards Panama Centro. After about 5 minutes., you will pass MetroMall (big beige shopping mall) on your right, followed by a Delta Gaz Station. Exit right (right after the Delta) where it says “Club de Golf”. Follow the road for 5 minutes until you pass “Brisas del Golf” on your right. Continue past Brisas to the highway (Corredor Norte). Once you pay the $1.25 toll, (do not take the”PYCSA” lane (far right) as it is only for Pycsa card holders), continue until you see the “Las Cumbres” exit on your right hand side. (We suggest that you stay in the right lane, as the Exit Sign is only viewable at the last possible minute). Pay the $0.50 toll and exit “Tinajitas”. You are now on Transistmica. Continue on Transistmica for about 5 minutes, until you pass the Avalon Hotel (on your left) and a pedestrian bridge. Take the first roundabout on your left (going back towards Panama City) and the first street on your right. Turn right again and follow “Calle del Lago” until the end. You will pass big houses and a lake on your right. At the end of the street, turn left then right into “Colonial Las Cumbres”. Then, take the second street on your right. Coconut Lodge will be the third (last) house on the left-hand side.

If you are coming from dowtown (not Corredor Norte)
Take Transistmica going towards Colon. You will pass Los Andes Shopping Mall, Milla 8 plaza (McDonalds). Continue on Transitmica until you see the Avalon Hotel (on your left) and a pedestrian bridge.

If you are coming from donwtown (through Corredor Norte)
Take Corredor Norte towards “Tinajitas”. Exit “Las Cumbres” (you will see the IDAAN building). You are now on Transistmica. Follow the previous directions.

Is it easy to get to Coconut Lodge by bus?

Currently, the transportation system is in transition in Panama. We cannot reccomend that you take the Diablo Rojo (old bus system), as they are quite careless with their driving and are slowly being phased out. This system is more trouble than it is worth. Diablo Rojo means Red Devil and that is an accurate description.

As for the newer bus system (Metro Bus), it ressembles North American transportation. There is a Metro Bus stop not too far from the Lodge, however to board the bus, you need a previously acquired bus card.
